Maintenance & Repair

Most curtains and most roller blinds do not need replacing when they stop working properly. Usually a single component is at fault, and it costs very little against the whole.

What we usually repair

Before you decide to replace a whole system, it is worth having it looked at. The majority of the faults we see come from this list.

  • Runners and track glides broken by over-enthusiastic pulling
  • Cords and tilt mechanisms on venetian blinds
  • Springs and brakes on rollers that no longer hold position
  • Motors and remotes on motorised systems

Cleaning and rehanging

Taking a curtain down and putting it back up is the job most people keep postponing. We take on the whole cycle: removal, cleaning appropriate to the fabric, and rehanging.

The most useful detail: curtains go back on the track while still slightly damp. Their own weight straightens them as they dry, and they usually need no ironing at all.

New fabric on the same mechanism

If the mechanism is sound but the fabric has faded in the sun, often only the fabric changes. It costs considerably less than a new system, and it is the less wasteful answer.

We work on other people's shading too

We do not need to have installed your shading. If the system is of a recognisable type and parts are available, we will take it on.

Frequently asked questions

Should I repair or replace?

As a rule: if the mechanism is healthy and the fabric worn, change the fabric. If the mechanism is old and incompatible with current parts, repair does not pay. We will tell you honestly after the inspection.

How often is maintenance needed?

Cleaning the track once a year prevents most faults. Dust is the main reason a track starts to bind.

Do you take the curtains away?

Yes, when they need workshop cleaning or repair. We take them down and rehang them ourselves.
